Starting this morning, motorists will see changes to traffic
patterns on Interstate 65 across the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge, as
crews finish concrete paving on the southbound lanes, according to
state highway officials.
Traffic will be
switched to one lane for northbound I-65 traffic and two lanes for
southbound vehicles from 5 a.m. today through July 13.
Traffic
had been restricted to one southbound lane and two northbound lanes.
But on Wednesday night, crews were to move the barrier walls to begin
repairs on the northbound lanes.
The exit ramps from southbound I-65 to I-64 East/I-71 North and I-64 West were scheduled to reopen Wednesday evening.
During
the overnight hours, crews were to close the ramps from I-64 West and
I-71 South to I-65 North, and the I-65 North exit ramp to Jeffersonville
(Exit 0). These ramps will be closed through July 13.
Motorists traveling
on I-64 West and I-71 South should follow the signed detour via I-64
West into Southern Indiana to I-265 East and then access I-65 North.
The
exit ramps from I-65 North to I-64 East/I-71 North and I-64 West are
closed through 5 a.m. Monday. Motorists should follow the signed detour
via I-264 (Watterson Expressway).
The following ramps continue to be closed for the duration of the project:
• The exit ramp from I-64 East to I-65 North in Kentucky.
• The exit ramp from I-65 South to Market Street in Indiana.
• The entrance ramp from Court Avenue to I-65 South in Indiana.
Vehicles wider than 9 feet are restricted from traveling through the work zone.
The
construction is being done by MAC Construction and Excavating at a cost
of $18.2 million. All work is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 15. The
schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather or
other unforeseeable delays.
